Sophia & Stella Productions

For friends and family afar, a little blog about the kids and us.

A quick quick post in between dishes and other to-dos while the girls nap. "The Girls" - whoa - I knew I would be using that phrase a lot but it still amazes me that we have two kids. We are parents in the unavoidable way. This isn't just whoops we had a kid, this is we have KIDS. I know, there's no difference between parents of one or two or more, it's not like I think we are better, we're just more harried.

So now what's the deal with the weather????!?!?!? I thought I moved away from Minnesota! If I have to deal with being snow/ice-bound along with having a new baby then I at least want to be able to hang out with Sara (in St. Paul) and her kids. Or maybe this is because my sister is coming next week and the weather wants her to feel like she's still in Minnesota. Dunno. Thank goodness all the snow is happening while Jeff is still at home with us.

So I am again facing the ultimate sleep issue: crying. As in, not falling beautifully asleep on one's own in one's own sleeping arrangement. Nursing to sleep and then sleeping on Jeff or I is no problem for Stella, but there's a bit of an issue with being moved to the moses basket. Sigh. I guess it's to be expected. The real issue is how much crying is ok - and my mom-gut reaction is NONE, though I obviously (Lucy!) advocate that some is fine (it being age appropriate) so I need to figure out what that amount is and go with it. Two minutes of fussing is ok for Stella. Maybe even five minutes. Not entirely sure yet, but I have to stop getting up when she even stirs and grunts because all I am doing is building a pattern in her that says "when I stir and grunt enough mom will bring her boob to me." She has these long semi-wakeful periods and they had been happening A LOT these first few nights (with LONG naps in the day) and it seems that we may be switching her around because she has been very wakeful today - the boobs have been in and out of the shirt alot all day (by the way - for all who asked - the green top is from Target - it's a 'yoga' top and it has been great for nursing, though I had to alter them to fit me better). First Dr. appt this afternoon for Stella. Hope Sophia doesn't freak if they do any shots. We need some good distractions.

isn't it weird to hear yourself or someone else say "the kids"? it took me a bit to get used to that.

is stella in your room for now? i'm trying to remember what we did w/ emma when she was a newbie. we had a cradle in our room, but since she got up so much to nurse during the first few months (and i was sleep deprived) she always ended up in our bed by morning (didn't plan on that happening!). i don't know how you feel about trying that out, but i know it helped me sleep better just bcs. i didn't have to really get up. we transitioned her into own crib at a good time though so that she didn't become too attached to our bed (when she started sleeping a bit longer at night-3 mos. i think). anyway, every baby and family is different so i don't know if that approach would be practical for you guys anyway. xoxo prasti
