my husband is great
Tonight we had Jeff's sister Suzanne, and her fiance Josh, over for a belated birthday dinner. While I was at the after-hours clinic with Sophia and mystery rash (which is just a common virus it turns out) Jeff picked up the house, made a fabulous birthday cake and got everything ready for a yum-yum-yummy dinner (homemade eggplant parmesan for adults, broccoli and farfalle for kids). I came home, helped with some tidying and 'made salad' (washed greens, got out dressing, broke up goat cheese and got out pine nuts). The funniest part of dinner was that to fit 6 people at our table we had to move it into the living room - it felt like camping out. It was really really great to have people over for dinner. We haven't really done too much of that since the kids came along. I miss the pace of a meal with friends, and while we were faster than most kids-free dinners, it still felt relaxed and leisurely to me. I think it is one sign of the kids growing up - they didn't need us to cut things for them, or spoon the food into their mouths, and this menu was good for both girls so there was virtually no cajoling. AMAZING!
And the cake was fabulous. Jeff always makes the most amazing icings (or is it frosting?) - you could spread it on a rock and it would be fantastic.
